Kathy was born near San Francisco and was raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where she learned to love the beauty of the natural world. As an avid camper and hiker, she discovered the world of photography, and learned to convey this beauty through the camera lens. After a time, she became frustrated with the photographic process and wanted to express her feelings about the land in a different way. With two and a half years of art classes and many years of exploration, Kathy found what was in her heart and began to express this passion through watercolor. Many of her paintings are seen from the perspective of a wide angle camera lens. That is why you will often see flowers towering over mountains. This lens stretches out distance, and whatever is closest to the lens will appear larger than the background. "I usually don’t paint an entire scene; I pick out only the elements I want the viewer to experience. I feel some of my best work is done from memory instead of actually looking at the subject." Kathy lives in Park County, Colorado with her husband of 31 years; and studied painting with Houston artist Linda Schmer. ~~Katherine Heister |
